كانت Challenger 300 تصميمًا جديدًا كليًا أسس شريحة الطائرات فوق المتوسطة الحديثة عندما دخلت الخدمة في عام 2004، جامعةً بين مقصورة ذات أرضية مستوية يمكن الوقوف فيها ومدى يبلغ 3,100 nm يكفي لعبور القارة من ساحل إلى ساحل. بُني منها نحو 450 طائرة، وتجعلها محركات HTF7000 المتينة وأنظمتها البسيطة واحدة من أكثر الطائرات اقتصادية في التشغيل ضمن فئتها.
