كانت Eclipse 500 أول طائرة خفيفة جدًا تدخل الخدمة، إذ حصلت على شهادة الطراز من FAA في عام 2006 وجرى أول تسليم في 31 ديسمبر من العام نفسه. وسلّمت Eclipse Aviation منها 260 طائرة قبل توقف الإنتاج في أكتوبر 2008 وإفلاس الشركة، وحدّث المالكون اللاحقون كثيرًا من الطائرات بنظام إلكترونيات الطيران Avio NG، وأُحيي التصميم باسم Eclipse 550.
