Farnborough, Biggin Hill or Luton: choosing a London private jet airport
Compare the final ground destination, operating window, aircraft requirements and handling arrangements before choosing a London airport.

Start with the address after landing
There is no single best London airport for every private flight. An airport that works for a meeting in one part of the region can create an awkward ground journey to another. Give the provider the final address, the latest acceptable arrival time and your return requirements before requesting an airport recommendation. Compare the complete journey, including the transfer and contingency, rather than just the quoted flying time.
Three options to compare
| Airport | A useful starting question | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Farnborough, EGLF | Does this suit a destination in Hampshire, Surrey or western London? | The operating window, handling, parking, permissions and onward transfer |
| London Biggin Hill, EGKB | Does this suit a destination in south-east London or Kent? | Actual handling arrangements, aircraft suitability and the planned ground route |
| London Luton, EGGW | Does this suit a destination north of London or an onward trip in that direction? | The offered private terminal, movement arrangements, parking and transfer |
These are geographical starting points, not rankings of speed or promises of aircraft access. Road conditions, the exact terminal and the destination address can change the result. A helicopter transfer is a separate service: ask about availability, baggage, weather, operating limitations and the connection at both ends instead of assuming it is included.
Check the time window before committing
Farnborough's official contact page lists 07:00–22:00 on weekdays and 08:00–20:00 at weekends and bank holidays, with Christmas Day and Boxing Day closed. These are published local opening times, not confirmation of a particular flight. Have the provider check the intended movement, required permissions and a workable fallback. Check the other airports directly for the date and aircraft being proposed.
For a return after a late dinner or event, ask what happens if you miss the intended departure window. For a morning meeting, build in enough ground time and ask how a diversion or delay would change the plan. Avoid comparing an optimistic transfer for one airport against a conservative one for another.
Compare like-for-like proposals
Send the same passenger count, luggage dimensions, local schedule and final address to every provider. Ask each to identify the actual air operator, aircraft and handling facility. Request a total amount and a clear list of included and excluded charges, including positioning, airport services, parking, crew accommodation and changes. A cheaper hourly rate may produce a higher total journey price.
If the proposed aircraft changes, revisit both cabin needs and airport suitability. Published runway length alone does not account for the flight's weight, weather, runway condition, obstacles or the operator's performance requirements. Ask the operator to confirm the actual proposal rather than treating a reference-table match as permission to operate.
A practical airport-selection checklist
- Write the final London address and the required arrival time.
- List the passengers, children, luggage and any assistance or pet requirements.
- Compare at least two workable airport-and-transfer combinations.
- Confirm the movement window and the handling facility with the provider.
- Ask for the complete price, the cancellation terms and the fallback airport.
- Keep the accepted itinerary and transfer details together.
Put the choice into an itinerary
Use the London destination page for airport references and the route estimator for an initial budget. Then build a travel plan. Select the airport that matches the proposal, and record acceptable alternatives in the notes. The plan does not reserve an aircraft. Availability and a dated quotation come from the provider.
