The galley
Ovens, chillers and a coffee machine packed into a cupboard, sized by weight and electrical power.
Beds and bedrooms
Seats that flatten into beds, divans made up with sheets, and on the largest jets a real stateroom.
Bathrooms and showers
Lavatories range from compact washrooms to spacious bathrooms with optional showers.
The cockpit
Two pilots, glass screens and, on newer jets, side-sticks or a head-up display.
Offices and meeting rooms
A table for four that doubles as a boardroom at 45,000 feet.
VIP airliners
Airbus and Boeing airliners fitted out as private homes: lounges, suites, dining rooms.
Crew rest
On long flights the crew take turns in a bunk or a reserved seat.
The baggage hold
On most jets above light size the hold can be reached in flight.
The private terminal (FBO)
Where the trip starts: a lounge, a desk, and the aircraft a short walk away.
Boarding
The airstair folds down from the door; there is no gate and no queue.
How cabins scale
Cabin length of the roomiest in-production aircraft of each class, drawn to scale. Height is the number that changes how it feels: below 5.7 ft you crouch; above 6.2 ft you walk.

Things nobody tells you
- Cabin altitude — a G700 keeps the cabin at 2,840 ft while flying at 41,000 ft; airliners sit at 6,000–8,000 ft. It is why you arrive less tired.
- The windows are oval for the same reason airliner windows are: square corners concentrate stress.
- You can bring the dog, and it can sit on the seat. Most operators charge a cleaning fee.
- There is no security line. You show ID at the private terminal and walk to the aircraft. Fifteen minutes is normal.
- The quiet is the luxury. Ultra-long-range cabins measure around 47 dB — a library — versus 80 dB in economy.
Seats, beds and luggage are different constraints
Choose a cabin around the actual group and journey. A maximum seat count does not describe sleeping comfort or luggage capacity.
Ask for the cabin plan
Confirm which seats berth, how many people can sleep at the same time, whether the lavatory is enclosed, and which galley, shower and Wi-Fi equipment is actually installed. Equipment differs between individual aircraft of the same model.
Give dimensions, not just a bag count
A baggage volume is not a loading guarantee. Provide measurements and weights for suitcases, skis, golf bags and pet carriers. Door openings, compartment shape, restraint and payload can be the limiting factors.
