The geography
Manhattan is ringed by airports: LaGuardia and JFK in Queens, Newark across the Hudson, and Westchester County Airport to the north. Teterboro, in New Jersey’s Meadowlands, is about 12 miles from Midtown — closer than JFK or Newark — and it has no scheduled airline service, only private and business aircraft.
The trade-offs
Teterboro has a 100,000-pound weight limit, so the very largest jets use Newark or JFK instead. The surrounding airspace is some of the busiest in the world, and noise rules are strict.
Why it matters
For a business traveller the difference is time: no airline queues, the car can meet the aircraft, and Midtown can be half an hour away on a good day.
