Ownership Cost Calculator
How much will flying really cost you per year — and which access model fits your hours? Adjust the inputs; all figures are estimates.
Annual cost vs. hours flown
Breakdown
Model: variable and fixed costs per aircraft from the JetAtlas database; fractional/jet-card/charter rates are category benchmarks; depreciation from category residual curves. Taxes, financing and crew salary variance excluded.
What changes at 100, 200 and 400 hours a year?
Annual utilisation changes the cost per hour, but the purchase price, residual value and programme conditions matter too.
Global 6500 · 200 hours/year
Illustration using a five-year holding period and 5% capital rate. The interactive controls above let you change the assumptions.
| Component | Annual estimate |
|---|---|
| Fixed operating costs | $1,500,000 |
| Variable operating costs | $1,040,000 |
| Annualised depreciation | $3,430,728 |
| Capital charge | $3,000,000 |
| Full ownership total | $8,970,728 |
Separate cash operation from economic ownership
Fixed costs plus variable costs multiplied by hours describe an operating budget. The full-ownership model also adds annualised depreciation and a capital charge. A quoted variable hourly cost alone excludes those items.
Use the controls before choosing a winner
Run the same aircraft at 100, 200 and 400 hours. Then vary the holding period, purchase price and capital rate. Fractional shares, jet cards and charter use category-level editorial assumptions here; their real contracts can differ substantially.

Full ownership, fractional, jet card or charter?
Use annual hours as a starting point and compare the travel rights you actually need.
Compare the commitment as well as the rate
Full ownership ties up capital and requires aircraft management. Fractional programmes combine a share or lease with management and occupied-hour charges. Jet cards prepay access under specific rules. On-demand charter is priced trip by trip. None of those labels alone guarantees the lowest total cost.
Take these questions to the provider
Check service area, peak-day access, notice time, minimum flight billing, cancellation, expiry, interchange and aircraft substitution. Ask which costs remain payable if you fly fewer hours than planned.
