The Praetor 500 is the midsize sibling of the Praetor 600, upgraded from the Legacy 450 with a 3,340 nm range that allows true coast-to-coast US flights with reserves. It shares the family's fly-by-wire controls, six-foot flat-floor cabin and Pro Line Fusion cockpit, and NetJets selected it as a fleet type in 2023.
The Legacy 500 was the first midsize jet with full fly-by-wire controls and introduced a six-foot flat-floor cabin that reset expectations for the class in 2014. About 80 were delivered before it evolved into the Praetor 600, and many have since been upgraded to Praetor standard through Embraer's conversion program.
The Legacy 450 shortened the Legacy 500 to compete in the light-midsize segment while keeping fly-by-wire controls and the stand-up flat-floor cabin. Just 58 were built between 2015 and 2019 before the Praetor 500 replaced it, and Embraer offers a factory upgrade path to Praetor 500 performance.
The Hawker 900XP added winglets, TFE731-50R engines and Pro Line 21 avionics to the 800 series, stretching range to 2,818 nm and improving hot-and-high performance. Produced until Hawker Beechcraft's 2013 bankruptcy, it represents the most refined version of the classic Hawker midsize cabin.
The Citation Latitude brought a wide, stand-up flat-floor cabin to the midsize class in 2015 and quickly became the best-selling midsize jet in the world, thanks in large part to a NetJets order for up to 200 aircraft. It pairs a 2,700 nm range with excellent short-field performance and Garmin G5000 avionics.
The Hawker 800XP is the most numerous version of the British-designed Hawker 800 line that Raytheon produced in Wichita from 1995 to 2005. Its wide stand-up cabin, rugged airframe and 2,540 nm range made it the definitive midsize charter jet of its era, and low purchase prices keep it popular despite older systems.
The Learjet 60XR modernized the fast-climbing Learjet 60 with Pro Line 21 avionics and a redesigned interior, keeping the PW305A engines that push it to 41,000 ft in under 20 minutes. Its stand-up midsize cabin and 2,405 nm range come at some of the lowest prices in the segment, offset by a longer runway requirement.
The XLS Gen2 was the fourth generation of the Citation Excel family, refreshing the cabin with new seats, lighting and a redesigned entry while keeping the Pro Line 21 cockpit and 2,100 nm range. It bridged the gap until the Citation Ascend entered service in late 2025 and inherits the Excel line's reputation for reliability and low costs.
The Citation Ascend is the fifth generation of the 560XL family, introducing a flat-floor cabin, larger windows, Garmin G5000 avionics with autothrottle and more efficient PW545D engines. Certified in November 2025 with first deliveries that December, it succeeds the XLS Gen2 and launched with NetJets as a fleet customer.
The Citation Excel married a shortened Citation X fuselage with a straight wing and PW545 engines to create the most successful midsize jet of its generation, later updated as the XLS with more thrust and Honeywell Primus 1000 avionics. Nearly 700 Excels and XLSs were delivered, and the type remains a charter workhorse valued for its stand-up cabin and short-field ability.
