Piaggio marks 40 years of the Avanti with 40-plus EVO sales
Piaggio Aerospace says the P.180 Avanti has reached two milestones: 40 years since first flight and more than 40 Avanti EVO aircraft sold since 2015. Across all versions, more than 270 Avanti aircraft have been delivered or sold over four decades.
- P.180 Avanti first flew in September 1986
- More than 40 Avanti EVO aircraft sold since 2015
- More than 270 Avanti variants across four decades
- Two Avanti EVOs recently sold to a Turkish operator
- Piaggio plans to raise output toward 30 units per year
Piaggio Aerospace used the Avanti’s 40th anniversary to underline a second milestone: sales of the latest Avanti EVO have passed 40 aircraft since the first customer delivery in 2015. The Italian twin-pusher turboprop remains one of the most recognizable aircraft in business aviation.
The wider P.180 family dates to a first flight in September 1986 and has topped 270 aircraft across its variants. A fresh sale of two EVOs to a Turkish operator is also notable because Piaggio is now owned by Turkey’s Baykar, which completed its acquisition in 2025.
The Avanti sits in an unusual place in the market. It is not a jet, but it offers jet-like cabin appeal and speed cues with turboprop economics. If Piaggio can improve support and lift annual production toward 30 units, the aircraft could regain visibility after years of restructuring.
