Boeing 747-8 BBJ · $400M reported
Delivered to Qatar's royal flight in 2012, this 747-8 BBJ was gifted to the United States in May 2025, a transfer reported at around $400 million that prompted debate in Washington over foreign gifts. Stripped to bare metal in Texas and rebuilt with secure communications, it became the interim Air Force One in July 2026.

Boeing VC-25A (747-200B)
The two VC-25As have flown presidents since 1990 and are over 30 years old. Their 747-8 replacements, the VC-25Bs, have slipped to 2028-2029 deliveries, so a modified ex-Qatari 747-8 known as the VC-25B Bridge entered service as an interim Air Force One on 1 July 2026. 'Air Force One' is technically a callsign, used for any Air Force aircraft carrying the president.

Airbus A330 Voyager (KC2)
Britain's VIP jet is an air-to-air refuelling tanker that received a £10 million VIP cabin in 2016 and can still refuel fighters. A 2020 repaint into a white-and-Union-Flag scheme cost about £900,000 and made headlines for weeks. Ministers and royals share it; when unneeded it goes back to tanker duty.
French Republic (Escadron de Transport 60)
Dassault Falcon 7X (plus Falcon 900s and an A330-200)
France's VIP squadron at Villacoublay has flown Dassault Falcons since the early 1970s and currently operates two Falcon 7Xs and four Falcon 900s alongside an Airbus A330-200 registered F-RARF for long-haul presidential travel. The unit marked its 80th anniversary in 2025, and the government has said it will standardise the Falcon fleet by 2028.

Germany ordered three A350-900s in 2019 for a reported €1.2 billion after a string of embarrassing breakdowns of its ageing A340s, including one that stranded Chancellor Merkel on the way to a G20 summit. The fully fitted 'Konrad Adenauer' was handed over in 2022, followed by 'Theodor Heuss' in 2023.

Japan retired its two government 747-400s in 2019 and replaced them with a pair of 777-300ERs carrying the Emperor and Prime Minister abroad. Each can also evacuate up to 140 citizens in an emergency, and one of the old jumbos was later offered for sale for around $28 million.
