On 1 July 2026 the VC-25B Bridge, a Boeing 747-8 donated by Qatar's royal flight in 2025, entered service as an interim presidential aircraft while Boeing's long-delayed VC-25Bs slipped to 2028 and 2029. The transfer, reported at around $400 million in value, drew scrutiny in Congress and became one of the most talked-about VIP airliners in years. MISLEADING — It is a private aircraft in the sense that no one else gets to book it. But 'Air Force One' is a radio call sign for any US Air Force plane carrying the President, the two current VC-25A jumbo jets are military aircraft flown by the 89th Airlift Wing, and they are hardened, self-contained flying command posts. The nearest civilian equivalent — a Boeing BBJ 747-8 — is a distant cousin.
